The Canary Islands are home to a very large number of outdoor private swimming pools, which are used within the tourist trade for 52 weeks of the year. Temperatures of pool water in Europe are normally higher than the Canaries in Summer months, due mainly to the lower and warmer wind conditions.

Over the years the thickness of the cover material has increased from 300 micron to 400, 500 and 600 micron and a strong backing material is now bonded to some covers to make them immensely strong. The material is also treated to the maximum UV protection rating (as supplied to the Southern Hemisphere).

Why do we need Pool Covers? Any body of water will heat up when in direct sunlight and cool down when a wind is passing over it. With the strong winds in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the cooling effect keeps the temperature much lower than you might expect at this latitude.

The majority of domestic pools in the islands are used by tourists who come to Lanzarote all year round, with normal water temperature being 15°c. in the winter and 25°c. in the summer. The tourists expect the pools to be heated to at least 25 to 27 degrees, so it is clear that some form of heating and heat retention is required.

Solar Gain pool covers are designed to act in a similar way to a solar heating system. If the sun is shining, and the cover remains on the pool most of the time it will add several degrees to the swimming pool water...perfect for general resident use.

Geoweave pool covers have a silver colour on the underside giving a notable quantity of extra heat retention saving considerably on chemical costs. For your convenience we recommend using solar covers with a reel system.

Our pool linings are tough, hard wearing PVC material reinforced with an internal webbing. This gives it both the strength and durability to withstand the highest expectations of the most heavily used public pools, and the quality of finish to transform any domestic pool.

The material is brought to site to be cut and tailored to the individual contours of your pool. Panel by panel, the lining is made up and the over-lapped edges fused together using specialised hot-air welding equipment. The seams are then finished with a liquid PVC.

In the Canary Islands the ideal solution is to have both solar and conventional heating systems applied to your pool. The average pool temperatures are 17°C or less in winter and 25°C in summer. The recommended temperatures for comfortable use are 26/27°C in winter and 28/29°C in summer.

A correctly sized and installed Heating system will increase the base temperature by up to 6ºC throughout the year and will therefore produce very comfortable temperatures for 8 months of the year, particularly if a cover is used at night time to prevent heat loss.
